Question: Is what has been circulated true, that the followers of the Imam, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, may Allah have mercy on him, when they took control of the Arabian Peninsula and reached al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, tied their horses in the Rawdah Sharifah located in the Mosque of the Messenger ﷺ؟
Answer: This statement has no basis in truth; rather, it is falsehood and a turning away from the truth. What is known about them, when they took control of Madinah al-Munawwarah, is that they spread the Salafi call and clarified the reality of tawhid with which Allah sent His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the rest of the messengers, and the rejection of what many of the people were upon of major shirk, such as seeking help from the Messenger, upon him be blessings and peace, and asking him for aid, and seeking help from those buried in al-Baqi' from among the Companions and the People of the House and other righteous ones, and such as seeking help from the paternal uncle of the Prophet ﷺ Hamzah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) and others among the martyrs at Uhud - this is what is well known about them, along with teaching people the true reality of Islam and rejecting the innovations and superstitions that had become widespread in the Hijaz and elsewhere at that time. Whoever claims otherwise about them - such as belittling the noble grave or the Rawdah, or says that they disparage the Prophet ﷺ and any one of the Companions (subhanahu wa ta'ala) He has lied and fabricated, and has said something contrary to reality and contrary to the truth.
And the books of history exist bearing witness to what we have mentioned, and making clear the falsehood of the fabricators. May Allah grant me and you understanding of His religion and steadfastness upon it until we meet Him, glorified is He, and may He keep us and you away from the paths of error; indeed, He is the One capable of that and able to grant it.
We ask Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) that He forgive them and all the scholars of the Muslims and the callers to guidance, and that He make us and you among their followers in righteousness, and that He show us all the truth as truth and grant us the provision to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the provision to avoid it. He is the Guardian of that and the One capable of it. And Allah is the Grantor of success.[1].
